Ken Bernard, a former Captain in the United States Marine Corps, graduated from the University of Georgia and the University of Georgia School of Law. After completing Officer Candidate School (OCS), The Basic School (TBS), and Naval Justice School, he distinguished himself as a Marine Corps Judge Advocate General (JAG). His military and life experience served him well as he transitioned to his current serious injury trial practice.
Ken is the managing partner at Sherrod & Bernard, P.C., and he has over 24 years of demonstrated history of commitment to his clients. He has vast experience at handling complex litigation and appeals, with results often in favor of his clients, including million dollar resolutions. Ken has represented families and individuals throughout Georgia in a variety of wrongful death, serious injuries, car accidents, truck accidents, motorcycle accidents, nursing home neglect, assisted living neglect, and product liability cases.
In 2007, Governor Sonny Perdue appointed Ken to a 7 year term on the University System of Georgia Board of Regents, which oversees the University System of Georgia. As a Regent, he serves on the Executive and Compensation Committee, Chairman of the Finance and Business Operations Committee (past Chairman of the Committee on Internal Audit, Risk, and Compliance; past Chairman of the Health Professions and Education Committee; and past Chairman of the Organization and Law Committee which oversees the legal affairs of the 31 public universities and colleges in Georgia). Currently, Ken is serving his 3rd term as Chairman of the University System of Georgia Foundation, Inc., which is a cooperative organization of the University System of Georgia and the Board of Regents. The Foundation administers scholarships, grants, and faculty awards in furtherance of the public universities and colleges of Georgia.
Ken formerly served as a Special Assistant Attorney General, and as Chairman, of the Marine Corps Association of Georgia Lawyers. He also previously served as Vice-Chairman of the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA), and has served on the Governor's Development Council (GDC).
Ken is a member of the Board of Governors for the State Bar of Georgia, where he serves on the audit and judicial evaluations committee. He is also a member of the Southern Trial Lawyers Association, Georgia Trial Lawyers Association, American Bar Association, Georgia Bar Association, Douglas County Bar Association, and National Association of College and University Attorneys.
Ken has served in a variety of local civic, charitable, and social organizations, where he has received recognition for his efforts on behalf of the community and region. Ken enjoys an active life as a father, husband, and now retired youth baseball coach with two Georgia Pony State Baseball titles (Mustang 2008 and Bronco 2009) and one USSSA Georgia State Travel Baseball Championship (12U)(AA) 2010.
